Watercolor rusty art

Mike PleasantI have lived in Chattanooga, TN all my life.  I attended Central High School, where I took art for the first time in the 10th grade.  Art soon became my major.  The love of art continued through college.  During this time I designed floats and fraternity art projects.    In 1966, I was asked to design posters for a musical group, which lead to my joining the group and touring the U. S. and Europe.

I have been involved in some form of art all my life.  Some venues include, blacksmithing, leatherwork, pottery and Indian art.  At the same time, I developed my love for cars.  rusty watercolor artI was lucky to live across the street from a top drag racer from the Chattanooga area.  I would spend my after school hours in his shop cleaning parts or anything else I could do.  He would take old bodies from the 30’s and cut and chop them to fit his project car.  This is where I guess I developed my love for rust.  He would say “Kid, you can’t make a new car look this good.  It takes years to look this way”.

In the 70’s I built custom vans, in the 80’s kit cars and am still building cars today, with the help of two grandsons.

About 1 1/2 years ago, I met three people who were all great artists, Christian, Claire and Skip.  They had formed The Artist Studio in Chattanooga.  Their goal was to teach the meat of fine art.  I have been with them since the beginning.  They have taught me the skills to take my art to the next level.  They soon learned of my love of cars, especially the rusty ones.  I hope you will also find that “Rust is a must”.
